Request: Iron Maiden inspired Lumia 1520

So, not sure if this was a figment of my imagination or if BenjaminXIII just deleted the tweet…but I’m pretty sure he requested an Iron Maiden home screen…and I wasn’t going to let that one slip through the cracks 🙂

Here’s your home screen whether you wanted it or not @maximaliks

I had a lot of fun with this one, particularly the detail in the second two images pinned to the home screen. For the first I tried to go for slightly transparent windows so you still get the effect that he’s sitting inside…

For the second image I loved it so much, but wasn’t sure what to turn transparent, so I ended up cutting out the window, including the blinds which took a little time, but I think it’s worth it 🙂

Sons of Anarchy inspired Lumia 1520

So, one of my friends and I were chatting about home screens the other day…as you do…and she challenged me to create a Sons of Anarchy themed home screen.

I’m not a huge fan of using TV shows for home screens, but SOA is not only one of my favourites, it lends itself nicely to a black & white colour scheme which I’m always a fan of.

With this home screen, I really liked how well the lock screen image lends itself to being double-sided. ie. Lock screen image + Kids Corner lock screen image together look pretty cool.

Challenge accepted friend, hope you like it 🙂 Iron Maiden, Breaking Bad and Halo have all been requested, so will be looking into those shortly I promise.

Wolverine Lumia 1520 Home Screen

So, I have a friend who loves comics, Wolverine in particular. You could say he’s partly to blame for my love of all things “comic”. Decided to do something nice for the guy and mock-up a home screen I thought he might appreciate…maybe not as cool as his custom Wolverine Converse, but I’m hoping it’s a close second 🙂 Enjoy bud.

Request: Call of Juarez Lumia 1520 Home Screen

This has been a week of requests. Demons, arrows and now gun slinging cowboys…it’s been fun 🙂

Grayson wanted to see Call of Juarez, a game I heard about, but never played. Needless to say, after doing a bit of digging to create this home screen, and even though it means having to plug my Xbox 360 back in, I’ve decided to buy the game and give it a go. Will let you know what I think Grayson 🙂 For now…hope you enjoy your home screen.

Request: Diablo 3 Lumia 1520 Home Screen

Hey guys, so it seems I’ve been inundated with gaming home screen requests this month…not that I’m complaining 🙂

Especially when the request for Diablo 3 came along. Although I haven’t played the game thanks to my PC being about 5 years old…I was a massive fan of Diablo 2, and bought the Diablo 3 Book of Cain because the artwork was just so damn beautiful.

Request: Titanfall Lumia 1520 Home Screen

When I saw this request to do a Titanfall home screen I couldn’t resist.

Not because I thought the game was awesome, but because earlier this week I got inspired by a guy called @Phantomsurfr on Reddit who created this epic lock screen.

I took that idea and tried to apply it to one of the main Titanfall wallpapers. Check the video out for the result. Hope you like your home screen @70thCmdr 🙂

Super Mario Lumia 1520 Home Screen (Landscape)

Been a while since I posted something…figured I better have something good to show for it 🙂

I’ve actually had a few requests for Super Mario, the most recent of which was from Gst Ngr Surya Winata:

The trick with an 8bit Mario theme is that our heroic plumber generally runs from left to right, and in a world of vertical home screens that’s a pretty tough challenge.

So, I could either do a generic blocky home screen or try something completely different…I went for the latter. Hope you guys enjoy the results

Two things to keep in mind about the home screen:

1. Although the icons are just transparent images pinned using PinPNG. If there was an “add action” feature we might be able to turn those static pics into working tiles!
2. This home screen is in a permanent state of landscape, so although it isn’t “practical” day-day, I think it’s a refreshing change

Wolfenstein: The New Order inspired home screen

1992 was the year Wolfenstein 3D was released, the first in the series and one of many awesome shooters that came out in the 90’s…

So when I heard Wolfenstein: The New Order was out on Xbox one…I threw Just Dance 2014 so hard out the window it knocked an old lady off her electric scooter.

Let me just say this…Wolfenstein: The New Order is one of, if not, the best shooters I’ve ever played. There’s so much right with this game it’s scary, most noticeably the feeling that you’re actually playing Inglorious Bastards.

Anyway, after finishing the game yesterday I couldn’t resist paying homage to my #1 game of 2014. Enjoy 🙂

Request: Gears of War

I didn’t even know there was a Gears of War comic until this guy came along…

What I found out is that there is in fact a Gears of War comic, published under DC’s Wildstorm. What I thought was pretty cool is the fact that Henry Flint did some of the inking for the series…this is the same guy responsible for Zombo, an awesome comic and the second home screen I ever created here on Tile Art Guy…not to mention the handsome devil at the top of this page 🙂

Anyway, @BazPants…hope you enjoy your Gears of War home screen my friend! 🙂

Rafael Grampá inspired home screen

I stumbled across Rafael Grampá while reading this Best of the week in covers story on iFanboy, where Paul Montgomery beautifully summarizes my feelings towards him as an artist: “One of my New Year’s resolutions for 2013 is to get to write about the devastatingly talented Rafael Grampa far more often.”

Rafael Grampá is a Brazilian comic book artist who’s style I really enjoy. He’s taken a great approach to timeless characters like Wolverine and done a pretty good job of portraying them in a completely new way.

He’s even released a CGI animation called Dark Noir which you can check out below:

Anyway, a lot of the characters which feature on the home screen below are from his comic “Mesmo Delivery“. For this home screen I tried to use a pretty simple background, which you can’t quite see in the Vine due to the quality, but you can test it out yourself by downloading the background here. You’ll notice there’s a subtle graded effect which still allows for a bit of ‘motion’ while you scroll.
