After a lot of thought I decided to go with this Dark side vs Light side (Ying vs Yang) approach to the home screen. It doesn’t use the real-life characters from the films, but I think the comic book art adds a nice effect. I especially love the white theme.

One thing I have to say…is long live the stylus! This is the first time I’ve tried the stylus on my new Surface and it’s been incredible!. First time stylus user, so all those wacom experts please forgive my enthusiasm 🙂

Call of Duty and the partly transparent shield

Somehow this Call of Duty theme I created managed to pass under the radar.

Wasn’t until I got a second request from Rinsoy that I realised one exists, and so…here it is 🙂

I particularly enjoyed playing around with the transparency of the shield. I love the fact that you can make things like glass, water, smoke and clouds “partly” transparent which makes them look a little more natural when you scroll down on the phone. If anyone out there has other cool examples of partly transparent themes, I’d love to see it! 🙂

Sin City Lumia 930 Tile Art Theme

Sin City, one of the best requests I’ve received so far.

The reason I loved it so much is that Frank Miller’s artwork was the reason I got into tile art to begin with. Here’s a pic of the first home screen I ever customized back in 2013.

It also came at the perfect time, having seen Frank Miller’s amazing Dark Knight comic come to life in the “The Dark Knight Returns” animations just last week.

It was a bit tricky to create this transparent theme, given that all of Frank Miller’s Sin City artwork is mainly black & white, but I hope that I managed to do it justice here.

Assassins Creed Lumia 930 Tile Art Theme

Between South Park The Stick of Truth and Shadow of Mordor I haven’t had the chance to check out many new games lately. So when Suraj requested an Assassins Creed home screen it was only natural that I dived straight into Assassins Creed Unity artwork.

Now, although I tried to stick to one Unity theme, I couldn’t resist using Adewale from Black Flag. He looked too bad ass not to be on the home screen.

I thought it was really important to mention that while I trawl the internet for awesome imagery, preferably PNG images, I’ve started to find a lot of people who create amazing renders on Deviant Art. Renders which turn great game and comic images into transparent PNG. These are the guys who provided some of the Assasins Creed artwork: JaRenders, BriellaLove and Zero0Kiryu.

So, it’s been a while since I last jumped into the tile art…for the last month or so I’ve managed to lose a phone, finish off one of the biggest work projects of my life, attend a wedding in Mexico and fulfill my life long dream of pretending to be a dolphin…

Request: Iron Maiden inspired Lumia 1520

So, not sure if this was a figment of my imagination or if BenjaminXIII just deleted the tweet…but I’m pretty sure he requested an Iron Maiden home screen…and I wasn’t going to let that one slip through the cracks 🙂

I had a lot of fun with this one, particularly the detail in the second two images pinned to the home screen. For the first I tried to go for slightly transparent windows so you still get the effect that he’s sitting inside…

For the second image I loved it so much, but wasn’t sure what to turn transparent, so I ended up cutting out the window, including the blinds which took a little time, but I think it’s worth it 🙂

Sons of Anarchy inspired Lumia 1520

So, one of my friends and I were chatting about home screens the other day…as you do…and she challenged me to create a Sons of Anarchy themed home screen.

I’m not a huge fan of using TV shows for home screens, but SOA is not only one of my favourites, it lends itself nicely to a black & white colour scheme which I’m always a fan of.

With this home screen, I really liked how well the lock screen image lends itself to being double-sided. ie. Lock screen image + Kids Corner lock screen image together look pretty cool.

Challenge accepted friend, hope you like it 🙂 Iron Maiden, Breaking Bad and Halo have all been requested, so will be looking into those shortly I promise.

Wolverine Lumia 1520 Home Screen

So, I have a friend who loves comics, Wolverine in particular. You could say he’s partly to blame for my love of all things “comic”. Decided to do something nice for the guy and mock-up a home screen I thought he might appreciate…maybe not as cool as his custom Wolverine Converse, but I’m hoping it’s a close second 🙂 Enjoy bud.
